In classic SCADA terminology a master terminal unit sits at the control center. What does it do with the remote stations?
- A.Filters inbound traffic crossing the plant boundary
- B.Polls remote units for data then issues commands
- C.Stores the vendor firmware images for each remote unit
- D.Converts fieldbus signals into analog 4-20 mA loops
Why B is correct
The MTU is the master in a master-remote arrangement. It requests data from RTUs or PLCs and sends operator commands back. Storing firmware, signal conversion and zone filtering are other roles.
