A vendor datasheet says a valve positioner is certified SIL 3 capable. The plant installs it in a loop that needs SIL 3. What is still required?
- A.A full loop PFD calculation using site proof test data
- B.A downgrade of the loop target to SIL 2 on vendor margin
- C.Nothing beyond filing the vendor certificate in the project
- D.A repeat of the vendor type test during site acceptance
Why A is correct
Device capability is only an input. The achieved SIL depends on the whole loop architecture, proof test interval, coverage and site conditions, which must be verified by calculation. A certificate alone does not prove the installed loop meets its target.
